Position: Associate Editor

Requirements:

The Associate Editor will function as a reporter, with responsibilities covering beats, including but not necessarily limited to, government travel, collegiate and education travel, travel industry associations and strategic meetings management.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor assigned beats for news and possible developments
  • Research possible story topics
  • Develop sources on beats to assist in enhancing industry coverage
  • Write multiple pieces per week for BTN’s print and online products
  • Occasional travel for coverage of industry events
  • Work with editors to finalize copy

Required knowledge and skills:

  • Comfort with interviewing sources
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written English skills, including good spelling and grammar
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Aperture Foundation

Type: Full Time

Position: Proofreader / copyeditor

Location: NYC

Aperture is seeking a full-time Proofreader/Copy Editor to provide critical editorial support for the foundation by proofreading copy for a large amount of ephemeral materials produced by our communications, sales, exhibitions, education, development, and book departments. The ideal candidate has razor-sharp proofreading, copyediting, and writing skills; is well versed in Chicago style; and is highly organized. A familiarity with the discourse around photography and contemporary art and culture is helpful. The position will report to the Senior Text Editor.

Responsibilities:

  • Copyediting and/or proofreading all print and digital ephemera produced by the foundation, including e-newsletters and e-vites, colophons, exhibition wall texts and captions, educational brochures, media kits for Aperture magazine, development materials, news releases, and seasonal sales catalogs and tipsheets.
  • Proofreading the biannual newspaper The PhotoBook Review.
  • Copyediting texts for upcoming Aperture titles, as time allows.
  • Working with senior text editor to consistently implement house style sheet across all departments and projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Knowledge of photography preferred
  • Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills
  • 2-3 years of copyediting and/or proofreading experience
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal oversight and thrive under pressure and on deadline
