Position: Assistant Production Editor

Location: NYC

Description: HarperCollins Children’s Books Group is currently seeking an Assistant Production Editor to provide assistance to the VP, Managing Editorial/Digital Publishing Services and to the rest of the department.

Specifically the Assistant Production Editor:

  • Sets up and maintains accurate book data records in department database.
  • Provides quality assurance; checks print and digital projects at various stages (book content and marketing materials).
  • Creates PDFs for digital warehouse.
  • Trafficks materials and provides general departmental support.

Requirements:

  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel)
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced/high pressure environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Some knowledge of copy editing and proofreading, including marks
  • InDesign and/or Acrobat experience a plus
  • College degree or equivalent work experience

Position: Associate Editor

Location: NYC

Description: Alloy Entertainment, LLC seeks an Associate Editor for the AE Publishing department. Position is responsible for developing new ideas, working with writers, and interfacing with editorial counterparts at publishing houses and interfacing with other members of the publishing community.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, edit, and manage a list of approximately 8-10 titles per year with supervision. This includes: providing line and overarching edits to authors; writing detailed plot and character outlines for ghostwritten and development projects; writing and editing cover and promotional copy; maintaining author and publisher schedules; negotiating deals with writers.
  • Pitch and develop story and property ideas, from one-liners to full plot treatments. Development goal is to sell 3-5 original projects per year.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with writers (for existing and new projects), editors, publishers, and agents.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • BA/BS degree.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in editorial, preferably in book publishing. Experience in children’s/YA/women’s fiction a plus.
  • Proven experience in development.
  • Knowledge of the marketplace, in publishing, film, and television.
  • Ability to manage complex book schedules with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to participate in managing the development process.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Established relationships with writers and agents.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with a team as well as independently.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours to accommodate crash schedules.
