October 6th-Sloan Crosley: The Clasp
Bookcourt
163 Court St.
Brooklyn, NY 11201
Time: 7:00 pm
Cost: Free
Sloan Crosley’s former career as a publicist might explain how she has been able to attract such a roster of heavyweight names to endorse her first novel — most notably Amanda Seyfried, who rambles on in its cutesy book trailer before admitting that she hasn’t actually read the thing. Ultimately, though, Crosley’s résumé doesn’t matter; the author of the essay collections How Did You Get This Number and I Was Told There’d Be Cake is gifted with enough urbane wit and charm to warrant the support. In her debut work of fiction, three estranged friends reunite at a wedding and learn the story of a mysterious necklace lost to time. They embark on a spontaneous quest to find the artifact and are whisked to Miami, Los Angeles, New York, and Paris. The plot provides due suspense, but Crosley’s smart humor is the real gem.

October 6th- WORD & Tumblr Present: SLAUGHTERHOUSE 90210 Book Launch Party
Housing Works Bookstore Cafe
26 Crosby Street New York, NY 10012
Time: 7:00 pm-9:00 pm
Cost: Free!
Celebrate the publication of SLAUGHTERHOUSE 90210, the book that celebrates the intersection of literature and pop culture. Joining author Maris Kreizman will be an esteemed group of TV critics with excellent stories of their own:
Taffy Brodesser-Akner is a contributing write for GQ and the New York TimesMagazine. She grew up in Brooklyn, did a dime in Los Angeles, which was not like the OC or even like the L Word, and maybe a little like early 90210 but not in a good way, and is now safely back on the east coast with her husband and two sons.
Tyler Coates is the deputy editor at Decider. He has written for BlackBook, Flavorwire, The Awl, The Hairpin, and Slate. He is a Treme apologist and doesn’t like Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and doesn’t care how you feel about it).
Gilbert Cruz is a lifelong New Yorker. Currently the TV Editor for the New York Times, he has worked at Entertainment Weekly, Time, and Vulture. He is still waiting for some (any!) streaming service to pick up UPN’s Nowhere Man.
Willa Paskin is the TV critic at Slate. She should probably be watching TV right now.
Pilot Viruet is the Television/Entertainment Editor for Flavorwire. She is the founder of TV Hangover, an occasional comedian, and a Degrassi scholar. Her pop culture writing has appeared on The A.V. Club, Previously.TV, and Nerve. She will always talk about teen dramas with you.
Books sold by WORD Bookstores.
