The Asian American Literary Review published a special issue in 2016 to open-up about mental health among Asian Americans. Open in Emergency: A Special Issue on Asian American Mental Health “decolonizes mental health” and features a “deck of tarot cards, a ‘hacked’ mock DSM, a foldout testimonial tapestry and more” to reveal what qualifies as “unwellness and wellness in Asian American communities.”
At this event, editor Mimi Khúc, along with contributors Tanwi Nandini Islam and Wo Chan, will provide discussions, readings, and performances based on this special issue.

Black TV & Film Collective’s 1st Annual Script to Screen: Jumpstart on 2018

The Black TV & Film Collective is a non-profit organization that strives “to create opportunities for people of color to achieve sustainable careers in television, film and digital entertainment.” Its three main focuses are sharing insider knowledge, building relationships and networking, and supporting the production of digital content, film, and television.
Script to Screen is a two-day immersive conference on the “how to’s of today’s ever changing digital media landscape.” The weekend is filled with workshops focused on the film-making process, from writing a script to finishing production. This is a great opportunity to meet and mingle with others who share a passion for writing, editing, and producing films.

Bowery Poetry is a project by Bowery Arts & Science, a non-profit organization established in 1995 to preserve and develop “the oral tradition of poetry via live readings, media documentation and creation.” Bowery Poetry encourages artists and writers to explore the arts as our culture and society continues to change.
Bowery Poetry Club’s NYC branch is hosting a reading series in the Bay Area, featuring acclaimed authors Helen Benedict, Owen Lewis, Susan Lewis, Meghan O’Rourke, Louise Marburg, and Sarah Van Arsdale. Each of these authors will be reading from their current works.
