Book Production Intern – Scholastic Inc.

Scholastic Inc. is looking for a qualified intern to assist our book production group. Our team handles a variety of children’s books, from picture books to middle-grade and YA novels to Spanish titles, and seeks an intern who can participate in various stages of the print book and ebook. This intern should be prepared to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, and will finish the internship having gained a broad experience in learning how a book evolves from manuscript to published work.

 

The position is open for the Spring and Summer, 10–14 hours per week, with potential for more hours.  The internship can continue indefinitely, so those who will be available long-term are particularly encouraged to apply.  This is a paid internship opportunity.

 

 

Responsibilities:

– Reviews text proofs

– Proofreads jacket and cover materials, as well as other materials as needed

– Performs ebook quality review

– Distributes meeting agendas and attends relevant department meetings

– Performs other tasks to support the book production team

 

 

We’re looking for a hard-working, energetic graduate student in the New York City area who is interested in learning about children’s book publishing. This person should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work independently, handle responsibility, and manage time well. Previous experience with copyediting or proofreading is highly desirable but not required, as is familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th Edition, and with standard proofreading symbols. A strong command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and an eye for detail are essential!
