Michelle Orange and James Lasdun

At Power House Books (37 Main St., Brooklyn) authors Michelle Orange and James Lasdun will discuss their various works. Orange will present her first essay collection This is Running for Your Life, while Lasdun will talk about his latest Give Me Everything You Have. The event is free and starts at 7pm.

Jeanie Bassinger and Sam Wasson

A night of cinema history will unfold at the Strand Bookstore (828 Broadway, Manhattan) when film historians Jeanie Bassinger and Sam Wasson talk about marriage in the movies. Bassinger is promoting her new book I Do and I don’t: The History of Marriage in the Movies.

 The Shaping of New Visions: Photography, Film, Photobook

This exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art (11 W. 53rd St., Manhattan) examines the role of photography in cutting edge, avant-guarde art movements. The exhibition highlights the medium in response to Dadaist, Bauhaus, surrealism, and conceptual art.  Students get in for $14.00, and the exhibition stays open until April 29th.

“Emma Lazarus: Poet of Exiles”

The Museum of Jewish Heritage (36 Battery Pl., Manhattan) is hosting a special exhibition honoring American poet Emma Lazarus, the author of “The New Colossus”- the poem featured on the Statue of Liberty.  Tickets for students are $7.00.
