Welcome Address by Professors Rosati and Sandberg

Today, Pace University welcomes the China Publishing Group Corporation (CPG) for a three-week executive program on best practices in the U.S. publishing industry.  Leading the delegation of 20 participants is CEO Mr. Tan Yue, recognized as a leader in China’s cultural industry.  Headquartered in Beijing, CPG consists of more than 70 subsidiaries, a joint-stock company, and financing operations.

The executive program is co-led by Professors Melissa A. Rosati, CPCC, Kirsten D. Sandberg, and Lian Xiao, faculty members in the Master of Science in Publishing program at Pace. Professors Rosati and Sandberg have invited 17 industry leaders to meet with the CPG delegation. Professor Lian is the program’s organizer and translator. The goals of the program are to foster dialogue about best digital practices and the future of global publishing.

The program’s first speaker is Michael Shatzkin, Founder & CEO of The Idea Logical Company and a widely-acknowledged thought leader in digital change in the book publishing industry.  In his nearly 50 years in publishing, he has played almost all roles: bookseller, author, agent, production director, sales and marketing director, and consultant. His insights about how the industry functions and accommodates digital change form the basis of all of the company’s consulting efforts.

Mr. Shatzkin’s presentation will focus on the state of the publishing industry and the role publishers play in securing ebook sales.
