Dear Colleagues and Graduate Students,

I hope you had a relaxing and pleasant summer. Welcome back to school and Pace University. We have 46 newly enrolled students and 66 current students, a total of 112 students enrolled in the Pace University Publishing program. The faculty and staff look forward to working closely with you this semester.

Please mark your calendars for the following events. First,  Cevin Bryerman will give his fall semester lecture as David J. Pecker Visiting Professor on Wednesday, December 4th, 2013. Mr. Breyerman is Publisher and Vice President of Publisher’s Weekly Magazine (www.publishersweekly.com)  and will serve as the David J. Pecker Visiting Professor for the 2013-14 academic year. His lecture will take place at Pace University Civic Center Campus in the Neil Bianco room (formerly multipurpose room) from 6-8pm. He will discuss current issues facing the publishing industry. Refreshments will be served.

Another important date to place on your calendar is Thursday, November 7th, 2013. At that time the Pace University Publishing Department will host the second Student Appreciation Dinner that  will celebrate student excellence and honor David J. Pecker, CEO and President of America Media Inc. (www.americanmediainc.com)  Mr. Pecker will present a lecture on the “Future of Publishing Today.” He is a Pace University Board of Trustee member, graduate of Pace University, and devoted to publishing and publishing education. For the past 28 years, Mr. Pecker has generously supported the Pace program through the establishment of the David J. Pecker Scholarship and the David J. Pecker Professorship. November 7th will be an evening not only honoring Mr. Pecker but recognizing the uniqueness of our students and alumni. Come enjoy dinner and a celebration.

And finally, the Publishing faculty and staff look forward to the department orientation on Monday, September 23rd, 2013 from 5-6 pm for new and incoming students. The orientation will be held outside the multimedia room on the 8th floor at 551 Fifth Avenue. Current students are welcome to attend but new students should definitely put this date aside. Official invitations for all three dates will be forthcoming.

My very best to you for a productive and successful semester.

Sincerely,

Sherman Raskin
