Cartoonist Peter Kuper’s latest book, Drawn to New York, is inspired by his adopted city (he’s lived here since the Summer of Sam). Author of The System, Sticks and Stones, and more than 15 years of Spy vs. Spy strips for Mad, Kuper this time explores Gotham in luminous colored pencils and angular blacks, juxtaposing the upswept heights of skylines against a panhandler’s plea. The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art is exhibiting his work through October 5. @ Society of Illustrators (128 E. 63 St.) 6:30 pm.
Now in its 19th year, the science fiction literary club hosts free readings on the first Tuesday of every month. @ Soho Gallery for Digital Art (138 Sullivan St.) 7:00 pm.

Mike Bridavsky did the only thing he could when he adopted a special kitty who had several genetic mutations: He put her cute mug on the Internet. And there’s no denying Bub’s cuteness, which is why Reddit and other sites embraced this cat with stubby legs, no teeth, and a tongue that always sticks out. Bub, of course, got a book deal, and now she and her owner are making the rounds promoting Lil Bub’s Lil Book. At the appearance, you’ll also get the chance to meet Bub in the fur. Price: buy a copy of the book or a $15 Strand gift card to attend. @ Strand Book Store (828 Broadway) 7:00 pm.
Jim Carrey promotes his new children’s book How Roland Rolls, illustrated by Rob Nason. @ Union Square Barnes and Noble (33 E. 17th St.) 2:00 pm.
