For over 35 years, BISG has been working on behalf of its diverse membership of publishers, retailers, manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, librarians and others involved in both print and digital publishing to forward its mission of creating a more informed, empowered and efficient book industry.
On September 27th, Professor Manuela Soares and Professor Jane Kinney-Denning had the privilege of attending the BISG’s Annual Meeting of Members.
With almost 200 members in attendance, it was the best attended meeting yet, with a lively and informative program that included an unveiling of BISG’s new Mission Statement; industry awards; insightful comments from a panel of leading industry executives; and a dynamic Keynote by journalist Clive Thompson, author of, Smarter Than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better, who noted “that technology enables more people access to more content than any time in history. He also offered a fascinating glimpse of a world where “public thinking” affects content. People perform (whether writing or learning) when they have an audience, something technology facilitates, he said, in an energizing and thought-provoking session.’

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the BISG and Executive Director, Len Vlahos and Thomson Guster, Coordinator, Education & Events for their generosity in providing Professor Denning and a student with a ticket. Having the opportunity to attend this meeting and other BISG events is a wonderful way for our faculty and students to remain on the cutting edge of our dynamic industry and to network with key industry professionals. Thank you!
