The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who:

  • Has excellent writing and communication skills
  • Is passionate about fashion and beauty
  • Is insanely organized and knows their way around a spreadsheet
  • Is social-media savvy
  • Has experience writing and building articles in content management systems
  • Has great multi-tasking and prioritization skills
  • 1 to 2 years working at a website is ideal but not required, and working knowledge of HTML and WordPress is a plus.

Position: Foreign Rights Assistant

Location: New York, NY

Reporting to the Foreign Rights Agent, the Foreign Rights Assistant will provide support in negotiating deals and fostering international relationships on behalf of the agency’s clients. They will join a hardworking and dedicated team, gaining invaluable experience in sales, client relations, and an international perspective on all publishing aspects and literary trends.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Track and mail submissions
  • Track incoming manuscripts, galleys, and finished copies
  • Compose submission letters and submission lists
  • Track clients’ performance in foreign markets
  • Organize trips to Frankfurt, Bologna, and London for the book fairs
  • Maintain the company’s rights guide in preparation for the book fairs
  • Develop publicity sheets for buzzworthy titles in preparation for book fairs
  • Track contracts through their various stages
  • Follow-up on payments for foreign contracts
  • Identify and correctly allocate outstanding money wires
  • Correspond with foreign agents and publishers
  • General administrative duties

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-2 years of book publishing experience, preferably at a literary agency
  • Excellent people and communication skills
  • Superior organizational skills and very detail-oriented
  • Extremely professional and articulate
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of BAITS software a PLUS
  • Foreign language skills a PLUS
