Position: Subsidiary Rights Assistant

Location: New York, NY

Hachette Book Group’s Subsidiary Rights department is looking for a Subrights Assistant. The Subrights Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Subrights department, and will report to the Director of Subsidiary Rights Little Brown Books for Young Readers.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and mailing foreign submissions
  • Monitor contracts database, chase contracts, chase advance & royalty payments, and maintain financial spreadsheets, reversion spreadsheets
  • Fulfill file and production requests for foreign publishers
  • Prepare seasonal rights guides
  • Assist in creating PowerPoint and other sales materials for seasonal book fair presentations and domestic sales presentations to Scholastic Book Fair and Book Clubs
  • Send materials and updates to scouts and co-agents
  • Assist in preparing for London and Frankfurt book fairs
  • Provide overall administrative support to Subsidiary Rights Dept

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of MS Office required. Ideal candidate would also have working knowledge of InDesign.
  • Bachelor’s degree and some office experience required
  • 1-2 years of experience (internships ok) in Subrights and/or Book Publishing a huge plus

Time Out New York

Type: Full Time

Position: Assistant Blog Editor

Location: New York, NY

Responsibilities:

  • Produce traffic-driving blog posts on a daily basis.
  • Develop regular content ideas and formats for the Time Out New York blog and magazine.
  • Research, write and produce assigned weekly features for both the website and print magazine.
  • Generate regular posts for Facebook, Twitter and Time Out’s other social channels that promote the latest and most relevant content.
  • Engage in and start conversations with our community every day, acting as a super user and moderator across Time Out platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Google + and Pinterest.
  • Contribute digital content ideas in response to commercial briefs and work on their development and production as needed.
  • Develop contacts through social channels to build a pipeline of guest contributors, both written and photography-based.

Objectives:

  • Increase traffic to the Time Out blog and www.timeout.com/newyork.
  • Increase traffic, audience, and engagement from Time Out New York’s Facebook page and Twitter account
  • Create and develop content that fulfils the overall commercial and business requirements of Time Out Group.
  • Maintain and develop strong internal and external working relationships, dealing professionally with colleagues across the Time Out group.
  • Be internally and externally recognised as an ambassador for Time Out values.
  • Be an authority on the Time Out brand and competitors.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in creating engaging, shareable content.
  • Experience of both promoting and generating content via social media.
  • Experience in a digital production environment.
  • Proven ability to work with the various tools of the trade e.g. content management systems, photo, video and audio editing software and a basic knowledge of HTML.
  • Ability to shoot and edit video for digital platforms desirable.
  • Ability to commission content for multiple platforms – not just copy, but images and audiovisual content.
  • Awareness of key New York events throughout the calendar year.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with editorial, marketing, commercial, design and technical teams.
  • A track record in delivering content on time and to brief.
  • Full of innovative, cross-platform content ideas.
  • A strong presence on Twitter, Facebook and other social channels.
  • Enthusiastic about emerging technologies.
  • Able to juggle long and short-term deadlines in a dynamic working environment and have exceptional time and project management skills.
  • Aware of commercial imperatives, in particular driving transactional revenue.
  • Able to communicate well with others verbally and in writing.
