Internship #1:

Title: Intern – Children’s Books – Spring 2015

Department: Marketing & Publicity

Job Classification: Unpaid.  College course credit only.

Job Description: ABRAMS seeks an organized intern for the Spring 2015 semester to join a busy Children’s Marketing and Publicity department. The internship provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the publishing industry and to get hands-on experience working in a fast-paced environment. The marketing and publicity intern will work closely with the children’s marketing and publicist planning and executing national and local media campaigns and marketing plans, coordinating mailings, and assisting with everything from event planning, print and social media outreach, to media contact database management and market research. The right candidate will have a strong interest in a career in publishing, pay attention to detail, exhibit a positive and energetic work ethic, and be familiar with internet research, blogs, and social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. This internship is for college course credit only.

Qualifications: We are especially interested in applicants who can demonstrate exceptional writing skills, resourcefulness, and the ability to prioritize tasks. Experience using Cision and Title Management is a plus. The ideal candidate is able to work between 12 and 16 hours per week.

Internship #2:

Title: Intern – Children’s Literature – Spring 2015

Department: BYR/Amulet/Abrams Appleseed

Job Classification: Unpaid.  College course credit only

Job Description: The Abrams Children’s Division (Books for Young Readers, Amulet Books, and Appleseed Books) is looking for a Spring 2015 intern to work closely with the editorial group on our list of picture books, novels, board books, novelty, and non-fiction for children ages 0 to 18. The intern should have an interest in current children’s literature and learning more about the publishing process. The intern will work closely with the editorial staff—reading and evaluating submissions, typing correspondence, maintaining departmental filing, updating contact databases, and assisting on creative editorial projects. Beyond editorial, the intern will interact with sales, marketing, publicity, design, and production departments, offering a broad introduction to the publishing world.  This internship is for college course credit only.

Qualifications: Intern should be proficient in Word and Excel, and have excellent internet research skills with a demonstrated interest in current children’s literature and the publishing process.

Job Description: ABRAMS is seeking an intern for the Spring 2015 semester to work closely with the editorial group on our list of illustrated books which cover a variety of categories including cooking, fashion, photography, interior design, humor, pop culture, performing arts, sports and many others.  The intern will work closely with the editorial staff – reading and evaluating submissions, typing correspondence, maintaining departmental filing, updating contact databases and assisting on creative editorial projects.  Beyond editorial, the intern will interact with sales, marketing, publicity, design and production departments offering a broad introduction into the world of publishing.  This internship is for college course credit only.

Qualifications: Intern should be proficient in Word and Excel, have excellent internet research skills with a demonstrated interest in developing their editorial skills and learning about the publishing process.  They should have an interest in the arts, trending culture and visual publishing.
