Description:
The Riverhead Publicity department is currently seeking a Publicity Assistant! This person will support a Senior Publicist on publicity campaigns for hardcover books and paperback reprints. Be a part of the imprint that publishes New York Times bestselling authors like Chang-rae Lee, Khaled Hosseini, Meg Wolitzer, Junot Díaz and many more!
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Provides administrative support (i.e. mailings, photocopies, clippings of press).
2. Assists in publicizing hardcover and paperback books (write press releases, perform research online, liaise with authors, book store events, pitch media, handle media requests, organize and confirm tour schedules)
3. Maintains publicity database (records of contacts, detailed and organized logs of publicity projects)
4. Helps with departmental duties (daily news updates, billing)
5. Liaises with related publishing departments including marketing, editorial and production
6. Works on other departmental and individual projects as needed
7. Attends events and parties hosted by Riverhead as needed
8. Assists with Riverhead’s multiple social media platforms as needed
Requirements:
• 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience
• Interest in publishing & publicity, preferably in literary fiction
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and knowledge of social media

Candidate will report to an Executive Editor and assist the VP Publisher at Little Simon. Responsibilities include all administrative duties- scheduling meetings, routing materials both in-house and to authors, handling mailings to authors and agents, and liaising with all departments. On the editorial side the position includes reading and evaluating manuscripts and novelty concepts insightfully and analytically, writing and editing catalog, tip sheets and flap copy, and coordinating the editorial and production process with an opportunity to grow and take on editorial projects. Management of manuscripts and novelty formats in all stages of production includes: preparing manuscripts for copyediting and production; keeping track of books in the production and editorial process; tracking paperwork internally and externally; liaising with authors/agents/illustrators and other departments through the publication process; professionally interacting with authors/illustrators, production, marketing, and sales staff to relay messages and follow-up on requests/information, Organizing and scheduling meetings and conference calls; note-taking at sales meetings as necessary; fulfilling requests for Sales, generating P&Ls, CRFs, estimate requests, check requests, sub rights letters, and other paperwork as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in English/Liberal Arts preferred
- Excellent communication and writing skills required
- Computer experience required (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
