John Freeman, who until 2013 was the editor of the London-based literary journal Granta, is currently preparing for the mid-October debut of Freeman’s, his new biannual of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. The theme of the inaugural issue is “Arrival,” and, in this event, Freeman sits down with a number of his new contributors — Colum McCann, Tahmima Anam, and Laura van den Berg, among others — to mark the publication and elaborate on the vision of Freeman’s. Featuring writing from a roll call of household names like David Mitchell (whose piece introduces a ghost in Hiroshima Prefecture), Dave Eggers (whose story tracks an old man who has brought a fork to a wedding), and Haruki Murakami (whose story follows an aging actor), this first Freeman’s issue leaves no dearth of talking points.
