Time: 8:00 pm

Cost: Free

A jewel of Crown Heights, the Franklin Park Reading Serieshas been providing the neighborhood with readings from a palette of distinctive writers on the second Monday of each month since 2009. The series has grown considerably — snagging the Voice‘s “Best Reading Series” award in 2013 — and has certified its reputation by offering a trustworthy lineup of both local and international authors, memoirists, and poets. This final edition of 2015 features six acclaimed authors, including Annie Liontas, Jamie Iredell, and a quartet of New Yorkers: Ryan Britt, Chinelo Okparanta, Niina Pollari, and Rachel Sherman. Britt published his first book, Luke Skywalker Can’t Read: And Other Geeky Truths, in November; in it, he approaches science fiction with a Chuck Klosterman–inspired lens and wonders, in the titular essay, why, in a galaxy full of wise Jedi, not one is seen schlepping a book. Pollari once composed nine curious poems regarding Lana Del Rey for the collection Kiss Me in the Boring Rain. The Franklin Park Reading Series justifies abandoning the apartment on a Monday night.
