Scientific American, Part Time Editorial Intern
Scientific American seeks an intern who has an interest in science journalism and can prove they are likely to excel at it. The chosen candidate will be fully integrated into our team and contribute to our award-winning coverage of science discoveries and technology innovations that matter.

Description:
The internship includes such duties as assisting editors, reporting, proofreading, fact checking, attending editorial meetings, and proposing and writing short articles for Scientific American magazine and Scientific American online. Interns typically leave with at least a handful of clips. This paid position requires 3 to 5 days a week—up to 40 hours—in our New York City offices.

Qualifications:
Must have command over the basics of reporting and writing and a strong interest in science and technology topics. An undergraduate degree in a science discipline is preferred but not required.

Scientific American MIND seeks an intern who has an interest in science journalism and can prove they are likely to excel at it. This position is highly competitive and if you are chosen you will be integrated into our small but dynamic team covering mental health, behavioral science and neuroscience.

Individuals who have a demonstrated interest in these fields may be especially well matched for the position. Relevant coursework is a plus. Multimedia experience—with video and podcasts—is also an advantage.

Description:
As an SA Mind intern, you will pitch, research, report and write stories for both the Scientific American MIND magazine and the ScientificAmerican.com website. You will be a part of all aspects of the editorial and production process for both online and print stories. You will actively participate in editorial meetings in which coverage of news and plans for longer features are discussed. Interns also take significant responsibility for promoting content on social media. You will be entrepreneurial in finding multimedia opportunities that can complement print stories on all platforms.


This paid position requires 3 to 5 days a week—up to 40 hours—in our New York City offices. The ideal applicant is versatile, detail-oriented, shows initiative and works well as a member of a close-knit team.

Typical Tasks:
* Regularly pitch and write for the magazine’s news section “Head Lines”
* Pitch and write book reviews for “Reviews and Recommendations”
* Report and write fast turn-around news stories for ScientificAmerican.com
* Report and record podcasts and videos for ScientificAmerican.com
* Assist with social media, both promoting content and tracking responses
