Listen Up! An Update on Audiobooks from BIGNY

It sponsors educational seminars and trips, holds monthly informational programs, and helps raise money for the Literacy Assistance Center.”
BIGNY is hosting an event focused on the development and future of audiobooks. Michele Cobb is the Executive Director of the Audio Publishers Association and will be moderating the discussion panel. Panelists include: Ana Maria Allessi, VP and Publisher at HarperAudio; Chris Lynch, President and Publisher at Simon & Schuster Audio; Dan Zitt, VP of Content Production at Penguin Random House Audio; and Michele McGonigle De Young, Executive Director of Production and Executive Producer at Hachette Audio.
Before the panel discussion at 6:15pm, network with colleagues over beer, wine, and hors d’oeuvres. If you are underage, you will not be able to attend this portion of the evening. Don’t worry, thought! You can still attend the panel discussion.

A Graphic Memoir?: Paul Sahre and Debbie Millman

The Type Directors Club is an “international organization whose purpose is to support excellence in typography, both in print and on screen.” It hosts a ton of literary and publishing events, including the publication of Paul Sahre‘s new book, Two-Dimensional Man (Abrams Press).
Paul Sahre is a graphic designer turned author. He will discuss his new book and “talk about the highs and lows of committing to life as a graphic designer, the making of the book, and what prompted Paul to write it.” Sahre will be joined by Debbie Millman, writer, educator, artist, and host of Design Matters; John Gall, graphic designer and VP and art director for Vintage Books and Anchor Books; and Gabriel Levinson, founder of ANTIBOOKCLUB and editor for Abrams Press.
After the discussion, Sahre will be selling and signing Two-Dimensional Man.

Barney’s Wall: Conversation on Literary Censorship

Where: NYU’s Tishman Auditorium – Vanderbilt Hall, 40 Washington Square South, New York, NY
New York University is hosting a screening and panel discussion of the new documentary Barney’s Wall. This documentary “probes the psyche of literary bad-boy and culture warrior Barney Rosset, who battled censors, smashed sexual taboos, and unleashed the Sixties counter-culture, introducing millions of young intellectuals to the hippest currents in literature, film, theater and radical politics.”
The panel will be led by: Sandy Gotham Meehan, producer, writer, and director of Barney’s Wall; Alan Kaufman, writer of Jew Boy and editor of The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry; Lorin Stein, Editor-in-Chief of The Paris Review; and Win McCormack, Editor-in-Chief of The New Republic. They will discuss the “literary law-makers and rule-breakers and the effects of censoring creativity and culture.”
