Grand Central Publishing is currently looking for a Publicity Assistant to support the Associate Director of Publicity for Grand Central Life & Style. The chosen candidate will work on a mix of lifestyle and nonfiction titles, while serving as a liaison between the division and media, bookstores, authors, and literary agents.
Responsibilities:
- Write clean, engaging copy for press releases and press kits
- Organize and oversee book publicity campaigns
- Organize tours, events, and media for high profile authors, and conduct appropriate follow-up
- Communicate with high profile authors and literary agents
- Work with production and distribution of digital assets, including chapter excerpts, photos, electronic event invitations, and videos
- Serve as a liaison between the division and all types of media, bookstores, websites, and bloggers
- General administrative responsibilities include mailing books, answering telephones, photocopying, faxing, filing, distributing in-house materials, and maintaining publicity databases
- Format and send daily internal email announcement of publicity successes
Requirements:
- Interest in book publishing preferred
- Prior publishing and/or publicity experience is strongly preferred
- College degree preferred
- Superb verbal and written communication skills and some knowledge of the media
- Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and Adobe (creative design skills preferred)
- Ability to multi-task and attend to details in a fast-paced environment

Penguin Random House | Sales Assistant (USA)

Penguin Random House is currently looking for a Sales Assistant to join the Random House Publishing Group Adult Sales team. The chosen candidate will work with the sales and publishing departments, and will be able to multi-task and handle strict deadlines while maintaining organization and effective communication. This position provides the opportunity to observe the book-selling process.
Responsibilities:
- Compile data from a variety of internal databases and run sales reports
- Track and analyze sales data
- Communicate drop-ins, updates, and other information to Sales Reps
- Assemble sales materials for both internal and external meetings
- Provide general administrative support for the department such as scheduling meetings and answering phones
Requirements:
- Minimum of 6 months of prior office experience; publishing experience a plus
- Interest in book publishing and sales
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to work comfortably with numbers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Proactive with strong organizational and follow up skills
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team

Little, Brown and Company is currently looking for an Editorial Assistant to provide editorial and administrative support to the Vice President, Editorial Director, and Senior Editor. The position will focus on crime/mystery, literary fiction, history/journalism, music, current affairs, technology and business categories.
Responsibilities:
- Write catalog, cover and promotional copy and preparing fact sheets
- Prepare contract requests and process payments
- Communicate with authors and agents about queries, payments, etc.
- Traffic editorial projects through Production, Copyediting, and Marketing, and secure appropriate approvals
- Enter title data into proprietary databases system and track data throughout publishing process
- Prepare cost specifications
- Read and report on manuscripts, proposals and books submitted for publication
- Coordinate meetings and events, including Sales Conference and Trade Shows
- Perform administrative duties, including: photocopying, sorting mail, filing, directing/responding to phone calls, etc.
Requirements:
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in literature
- An ability to attend to details and juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Solid computer skills, including MS Word, Excel and databases
- Polished communication skills & interpersonal skills
- Bachelor’s degree in English preferred
- At least one year of professional experience within publishing industry
