Grand Central Publishing is looking for an Editorial Assistant to provide editorial and administrative support to the Vice President and Executive Editor of general nonfiction and the Senior Editor of health and wellness titles.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with books published by Grand Central, Grand Central Life & Style, and goop press
  • Write catalog, cover, and promotional copy
  • Prepare fact sheets
  • Prepare contract requests and process payments
  • Communicate with authors and agents about queries, payments, sales information, etc.
  • Traffic editorial projects through Production, Copyediting, and Marketing, and secure appropriate approvals
  • Enter title data into database system and track data throughout publishing process
  • Prepare pre-acquisition materials, including profit-and-loss statements
  • Read and report on manuscripts, proposals, and books
  • Draft rejection letters
  • Coordinate meetings and events
  • Perform administrative duties, including: photocopying, sorting mail, filing, directing/responding to phone calls, etc.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year of publishing experience preferred (internships are OK) or other editorial work experience
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in wide array of nonfiction
  • Solid computer skills, particularly Excel and databases
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the aptitude to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers is also an imprint at Hachette Book Group. It is “one of the country’s oldest and most distinguished publishing houses.” Little, Brown Books for Young Readers is dedicated to publishing high-quality fiction and nonfiction for young readers.

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers is looking for an Editorial Intern to provide administrative and editorial support to two of its Associate Editors. The intern will work 13 hours per week.

Requirements:

  • A current student or recent graduate interested in exploring a career in book publishing
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Enthusiastic and excited about discussing recent books you’ve read
  • Possess a great attitude and a desire to learn as well as excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and contribute insights
  • Resourceful with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and work independently
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Bonnier Publishing | Publicist

Bonnier Publishing is one of the largest publishing companies in the United Kingdom, with divisions in Australia and the United States. They have many imprints across the world, but the US division includes Little Bee Books (children’s literature), Weldon Owen (adult nonfiction), and Sizzle Press (media and licensing). While Weldon Owen operates out of San Fransisco, CA, Little Bee Books and Sizzle Press operate out of New York, NY.

Bonnier Publishing is looking for a Publicist to join its USA children’s group (Little Bee Books, BuzzPop, Yellow Jacket). The publicist is responsible for “pitching and booking media for a diverse list of children’s books in both traditional and nontraditional outlets.” They will work with authors and illustrators on event and trade show appearances, help identify key titles for media opportunities, increase trade and consumer awareness, and build campaigns with the marketing team.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute publicity campaigns for 100+ titles each year
  • Collaborate with the children’s marketing manager to ensure that publicity plans are consistent with overall marketing strategy for the book and the imprint
  • Secure reviews, author interviews, features, and exclusive content for our books in both national and regional media
  • Plan and execute author tours, school visits, and event appearances
  • Create and manage a list of publicity contacts within the trade and mainstream media
  • Create dynamic press materials and targeted email pitches
  • Coordinate mailings
  • Work with the blogging community
  • Work on launches of new imprints and initiatives
  • Create and adhere to an annual budget
