W. W. Norton is looking for Publishing Sales Representatives to meet with professors and instructors to promote its textbooks, media, and other course materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with academic faculty to assess individual and departmental needs, and promote Norton’s books and media to current and prospective adopters. You’ll be on campus during the school year, meeting with between 10-15 professors every day.
  • Track sales opportunities within a territory, collaborating with editors, marketing managers, and specialists to provide solutions for faculty and think creatively about how to win business.
  • Work with faculty to promote Norton media and technological solutions to enhance classrooms (traditional and online) and support student learning. You will also spend time helping instructors set up and implement the technology and facilitate student registration.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to current and potential adopters.
  • Grow revenue and increase adoption rates across your territory.
  • From time to time you will host presentations, media and teaching workshops, and book fairs.
  • Work with college bookstores to ensure orders are placed and fulfilled smoothly.

Requirements:

  • BA or BS degree with a minimum GPA of 3.2
  • A valid driver’s license (depending on location, you may be traveling overnight)

  • Strong time management skills

Disney | Marketing & Publicity Coordinator 

Location: New York, NY

Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media (DCPI) is a business segment of The Walt Disney Company that “brings stories and characters to life through innovative and engaging physical products and digital experiences across more than 100 categories, from toys and t-shirts, to apps, books and console games.” DCPI deals with licensing, retail, games and apps, and content. It is home to “world-class teams of app and game developers, licensing and retail experts, a leading retail business (Disney Store), artists and storytellers, and technologists who inspire imaginations around the world.”

DCPI is looking for a Marketing & Publicity Coordinator, who will be under the management of the Senior Manager of Marketing Promotions and Sales Communications. The chosen candidate will assist the marketing and publicity teams with promotions, advertising, sales materials, and media mailings.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the seasonal catalogs, PowerPoint presentations, sell sheets, and additional sales assets in preparation for seasonal presentations to sales, including gathering and updating information from various departments (editorial, design, marketing, publicity)
  • Assist with the update and ongoing maintenance of Disney Book Group’s presence on the Edelweiss digital catalog
  • Coordinate annual Regional Holiday Advertising (obtain copy, assets) and submit materials to Publications
  • Handle the daily operational activities of the publicity department including organizing press materials, researching, and updating and maintaining media lists
  • Maintain and update Book Award submissions
  • Create and send author confirmation letters to event locations and communicate book orders to our Hachette partners
  • Assist with the weekly DCPI update
  • Monitor DPW Publicity general mailbox and reply to requests and correspondence
  • Coordinate review copy and promotional materials mailings
  • Lead weekly Publicity schedule meeting
  • Manage creation of signage for author events and trade shows
  • Attend and support Disney Book Group’s presence at local shows such as Book Expo and New York Comic Con

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Marketing, Communications, Literature, or a related area)
  • 1-2 years of experience and understanding of publishing functions and processes a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
  • Enthusiastic, hardworking, and able to work quickly and accurately under tight deadlines
  • Strong personal and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Capable of working within a collaborative team environment as well as independently
  • Ability to take direction from multiple people
  • Candidate must have good computer background – Mac & PC fluent. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Keynote. Experience with SAP a plus

Simon & Schuster | Fall 2018 Internship

Simon & Schuster have started looking for interns for its Fall 2018 Internship Program. This position lasts for 8 weeks and allows interns schedule their hours (16 hours/week) around their academic schedule.

The internship gives students “a chance to explore the world of book publishing with a behind-the-scenes learning experience.” Based on their interests and experience, interns will be placed within specific departments where they will experience how all aspects of the publishing industry work. Most assignments are within the editorial, marketing, and publicity departments.

Along with hands-on experience, interns will also be provided with weekly seminars, mentoring relationships, and networking opportunities. Interns will shadow and work with publishing professionals while also attending meetings and events.
