This month is Emily Dickinson’s birthday (December 10th). Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts and is known for her poetry.
“If I read a book and it makes my whole body so cold no fire can ever warm me, I know that is poetry.”
Dickinson was known for being reclusive and did not usually leave her house in her later years. Themes of death and immortality were seen frequently in her writing and can be found in most of her poems. She wrote over 1,800 poems in her lifetime, however barely a dozen were published while she was alive. After her death, her poems were discovered by her sister. They were then published posthumously, by two acquaintances.
