On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, the MS in Publishing students had the opportunity to go on a field trip. Grad students they might be, but their excitement was akin to that of kids in a candy store! With the destination being the Barnes & Noble store on Warren Street, the students from the Internship I and Fundamentals of Trade Book Publishing class had a fun time exploring the product that they most ardently wished to work on– the BOOKS. Professors Jennifer Romanello and Eileen Kreit accompanied their classes and shared their perspectives on book covers, bookstore events, marketing, positioning of the product, and the basic psyche of a consumer walking into a bookstore. This unique combined class took place from 6 pm until the store closed its doors at 8 pm. Students had a hands-on learning experience about ensuring visibility for their product and many could not resist the charm of the books displayed and found themselves lining-up at the cash register!
