Pace University Press fulfilled its longstanding aspiration of independently publishing its own texts, thanks to the visionary efforts of Press Director Manuela Soares. Under her leadership, the imprint PUPText was established with the explicit goal of producing high-quality textbooks. This dream materialized on January 25, 2024, during the Spring 2024 Student Orientation in the MS in Publishing department, where the inaugural textbook was officially launched.

Titled Words We Use: A Glossary and Reference Guide for Publishing and Media, this comprehensive work serves as a valuable resource for anyone eager to delve into the intricacies of publishing and media. Crafted by industry experts, including faculty from the MS in Publishing department, the glossary provides a thorough compilation of publishing terms. Geared towards individuals aspiring to pursue careers in publishing and digital media or those already entrenched in the field, the guide is designed to facilitate an enhanced understanding of the industry.

Beyond the glossary, the reference guide boasts additional enriching content, including:

  • Common terms in Artificial Intelligence
  • Educational publishing terminology
  • A curated list of standard references
  • Noteworthy publishing industry organizations
  • Practical proofreading charts
  • Appendices featuring essential elements of a marketing kit, a press or media kit, a press release, as well as front and back matter.

This groundbreaking endeavor by Pace University Press marks a significant contribution to the educational resources available for those navigating the dynamic landscape of publishing and media.
