Become the author of your own story this summer!
From July 14-July 26, high school students have the chance to explore the world of publishing through the Pace University MS in Publishing Pre-College Summer Immersion Program. This two-week program offers hands-on learning right here in New York City. Whether you enjoy writing or are curious about how books are made, this program will help you learn from real publishing professionals. Students will attend workshops, listen to guest speakers, and go on field trips to better understand how publishing works, from writing a draft to seeing a finished book in stores.
What Makes This Program Special?
Work with Publishing Professionals
Students will get guidance on their own writing from professionals in the publishing field. At the end of the program, they will have a stronger, edited writing piece they can use for college applications or as part of a portfolio.
Learn About Important Topics
Students will learn about current issues in publishing, including book banning and how new technology like artificial intelligence is changing the industry. They will also refine their writing, gain new editing skills, learn more about editorial, publicity, marketing, and more.
Create a Portfolio
Each student will have the chance to build a writing portfolio. This is a great way to show off your skills and prepare for future school or job applications.
Visit Bookstores in the City
Students will visit both chain and independent bookstores, and they will also go to a major publishing house. These visits will help students understand what it’s like to work in publishing in a real-world setting.
Why This Program?
This is a great opportunity for students who want to learn more about publishing. This is more than just a summer course. It can help students grow their professional skills, explore career ideas, and meet people who work in the publishing industry.
Professor Eileen Kreit, who is leading the program, said it best:
“We give students an opportunity to learn about the publishing industry in an immersive and experiential way, while also working on their personal pieces of writing and developing their portfolio.”
This program is designed to help students discover their voice, build new skills, and take the first step toward a future in publishing. If you are a high school student, or you know someone who is, and you are interested in books, writing, or how books are made, this program is a great way to learn more. You will gain useful skills, meet professionals, and experience life in New York City for the summer.
