Who Are We?
Created in May 2023, The Publishing Lab is a brand-new literary arts journal published and run by students of the MS in Publishing Program at Pace University. The journal will showcase the original works of our fellow students consisting of fiction and nonfiction, poetry, artwork, academic pieces, articles, comics, screenwriting, and photography.
Editorial Board
Our Editorial Board is a way for Pace professors and students to collaborate on ideas, themes, and future goals for the pub lab. We plan out the production schedule, the sales method, and distribution. Partnering with The Pace Press, we can accomplish our goals.
For the 2023-2024 school year, the board consists of Professors Manuela Soares and Eileen Kreit, and students Luiza Guimaraes, Kaitlyn Keel, Harshdeep Kaur, Amber Grell, and Shianne Henion.
Our Mission
The publishing industry has been led, historically, by people who are passionate about their work. But as rewarding as working with what you love is, we still need our work to provide us with healthy living conditions. As graduate students, we are constantly in touch with the important discussions surrounding the Publishing industry, from the latest technologies to matters such as diversity, equity, and inclusion. The university is a place where we are free to debate and discuss the present and the future of our fields. In our journey as students, we meet people who are transforming the industry for the better, as well as people who are having a hard time letting go of their prejudices. We believe that, even as graduate students, we can do more than simply settle for what the industry offers today. It is from this fertile soil that the idea for The Publishing Lab came. The Pub Lab is more than a laboratory in which we can develop our skills and build our resumes, it is an experimental project by nature, a space where students can learn how the industry works and can feel safe to imagine and try out their ideas on how publishing could be.
Who Can Join?
We are looking for any Pace publishing student or alumni of up to two years (those who graduated in 2020-2022). Whether you are looking for a role on our team, you want to submit your original work, or both, we welcome you to apply!
