The Pace University MS in Publishing program is happy to announce The Publishing Lab team for the 2025 – 2026 academic year! The Publishing Lab aims to provide students with hands-on experience through the publishing process, preparing them for their future careers, and enabling them to have their original work published. After the success of the first and second volumes of this anthology, this year’s team is looking forward to taking the reins and seeing where this volume takes them!

Misha Puello Brasil, Editor-In-Chief

Misha Puello Brasil is in her third semester of the MS Publishing Program at Pace, and she is Volume III’s Editor-in-Chief. Her favorite place to read is in bed or a comfy armchair, curled up under a blanket next to an open window, with her cat, Salem, by her side.

 

Rachel Geller, Managing Editor

Rachel Geller is in her third semester and serves as one of the Managing Editors. Her favorite place to read is on her couch with a comfy pillow. 

 

Hailey Hovey, Managing Editor

Hailey Hovey is a Managing Editor of Volume III in her fourth semester of the publishing program. Her favorite place to read is the reading nook in her bedroom, decorated with fairy lights and the comfiest chair imaginable.

Sydney Bulthuis, Editor/Agent

Sydney Bulthuis is in her first semester of her MS in Publishing. She’s a member of the editorial team, and her favorite place to read is outdoors, preferably by the lake.

 

Brandie Black, Editor/Agent

Brandie Black is a third-semester student and is an Agent/Editor for Volume Three. Brandie’s favorite place to read, most of the time, is on her couch with her nice and weighty cat print blanket keeping her legs warm; however, it’s occasionally on a friend’s couch while waiting for their weekly tabletop RPG to start.

 

Ruth Baker, Editor/Agent

Ruth Baker is on the editorial team during her first semester in the MS in Publishing program. Her favorite place to read is on a grassy hill in the park.

 

Nia Smith, Editor/Agent

Nia Smith is in her second semester in the publishing program. She is one of the editors for this year’s Publishing Lab, and her favorite place to read is curled up on her comfy couch with a blanket and some sweet tea.

 

Malena De Tomas, Editor/Agent

Malena De Tomas is a second-semester student in the MS in Publishing program, acting as an Editor/Agent. Her happy place is reading at the beach, accompanied by the soothing sound of crashing waves.

Bianca Harte-Hall is a first-semester student in the MS Publishing program and part of the editorial team. Her favorite place to read is wrapped up in a fuzzy blanket on my couch, and depending on the weather, she’ll turn on the fireplace.

Gaby Greenhill is part of the editorial staff for the Pub Lab. It’s her first semester in the MS Publishing Program. Her favorite place to read is anywhere outside, while baking in the sun, preferably on the beach.

Maya Blake is a first-year MS in Publishing student as part of the 4+1 Combined Degree program. She is an editor/agent of Volume Three, and her favorite place to read is at home, in bed.

Kat Cavanaugh is in her second semester in the MS in Publishing program. She loves to sit on the green wingback in her parents’ den and read a fantasy or a horror novel.

Caylin Moore is in her final semester in the Book Publishing Certificate program. She is working on the editorial and marketing teams for this volume and loves to read in bed with mood lighting and a seasonally scented candle.

Rachelle Ciulla is in her first semester of the Publishing program and is on the Marketing and Editorial teams. Her favorite place to read is everywhere! She’s never without a book handy.

Vidhi Sampat is a second-semester Publishing student. She’s a designer for the team. Wherever there’s a mountain view, you’ll find her creating and exploring stories.
Robin Stoutenburg, Marketing/Social Media
Robin Stoutenburg is in her last semester of the publishing program (woohoo!), and her role on the Publishing Lab team is marketing and social media. Her favorite place to read is simple – it’s anywhere with good natural lighting – especially outside on a chilly Fall day.
Chardonnae Simpson, Marketing/Social Media
Chardonnae Simpson is in her third semester and is part of the marketing and social media team. Her favorite place to read is in a cozy, quiet lounge or curled up under a fuzzy blanket.

Brittany Kitchen is on the marketing and social media team. Books have always been her safe place, and her favorite place to read is the train, where she gets most of her reading done while traveling.

Faculty Advisors

 

Professor Manuela Soares, Director of the M.S. in Publishing Program, Faculty Advisor

Prior to being named as Director in 2018, Soares had been a full-time faculty member in the MS in Publishing program since 2004. The courses she has taught include General Interest Books, Children’s Book Publishing, Marketing Principles and Practices, Entrepreneurship, and Ethics in Publishing. She also taught the Graduate Seminar, in which students write their Master’s thesis. She is on the Editorial Board of Publishing Research Quarterly, where many of the program’s thesis papers have been published in abbreviated form. Soares is also Director of Pace University Press, overseeing the publication of journals and books. In her over thirty-year career, Soares worked in both magazine and book publishing as a writer and editor, most recently as the Managing Editor at Scholastic, where she supervised the hardcover (and some paperback) imprints, including the first five Harry Potter books. Prior to that, she was a Senior Editor at Rizzoli International, acquiring books in a variety of disciplines (fashion, design, cooking), but focusing mainly on art and photography.

 

Professor Eileen Kreit, Faculty Advisor

With more than 32 years at Penguin Random House in various sales and editorial leadership positions, Kreit brings deep expertise and her many connections in children’s books and the publishing industry to the MS in Publishing Program. As the president and publisher of Puffin Books for 18 years, she published classics such as The Outsiders, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Madeline, Corduroy, Pippi Longstocking, and Judy Blume’s Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Superfudge books. She serves as the faculty advisor for The Publishing Lab: An Anthology of Student Creative Work, an annual anthology of creative writings by the students in the program. Kreit is also the associate director of Pace University Press, where she oversees and mentors the student aide and graduate assistant. Eileen’s favorite place to read is curled up on her couch with her dog in lap!
